The Winnipeg Jammy's Spring Festival
Friday April 24th, at 1463 Pembina Highway, brought together some of Winnipeg's top musicians for a full night of blues, classic rock and roots jam music in support of fund raising for SSCOPE's new mental health employment programs.
Guest musicians included: Big Chunk O' Rock, Girl Wonder and Hillbilly Boys, with more announcements to come, as well as last minute surprise guests. Audience participation during the night brought an “Idol” feel to the event as musicians and groups get recognized for their Jam talents.

 This couple knows how to throw a wedding party! Picture it:
- a carnival theme with 7 circus tents
- a park like setting with huge trees
- a beef and pig roast
- the groom wore a kilt
- the best man was a woman
- and the bride was awesome!
- Big Chunk O'Rock played and the crowd danced until the permit ran out.
Did I mention that the bride was awesome?!!!
Special guest band No Requests with the groom on drums, did a great set after not having played together for a year or so. Andy, one of the guitar players from No Requests did a great job sitting in with Big Chunk O'Rock. |

The event was sold out with 250 delegates from across Canada and with a couple of special guests (Andy and Robert) from Australia.
We had to move the "Beach Party" indoors because of a thunderstorm. Big Chunk O'Rock played right until midnight. A small but very enthusiastic crowd stuck with with us to the end. Quite a feat given it was a Wednesday night and the conference breakfast and program started at 7 am each day.

A great time was had by all!
Over 300 people crowded in to the Crescentwood Community Club. Big Chunk O'Rock had a hoot belting out that Classic Rock.
Fred Penner joined us on stage for several numbers. He still wows the crowd with "The Cat Came Back". Jimmy Ingebrigtsen got up and signed off our first set and Al Simmons made a grand entrance on his horse-bicycle! If anyone got pictures - please send them.

Wow! What a great experience! The show at the Playhouse was awesome but the highlight of the event was renewing acquaintances with many of my musician friends from "the old days".
I had a great opportunity to reconnect with Phil, Susanne, Lina, Rita, Marcel, Louis, Lorraine, Leo Antoine (Duff), Gerry and Adèle. It was unfortunate that Norm (in Gatineau), Ziz (in Australia), Daniel (in Montreal) and BB (in Quebec City) couldn't make it but I did get an opportunity to sing Norm's famous song "The Cowboy's Blues" at the jam session after the gig.
You all still look and sound great! Honest!
